The language of education in Ukraine
The official language (Ukrainian), according to the Law of Ukraine "On Education" and the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language." The state guarantees the right to receive education in the state language, and educational institutions are required to ensure its study, although they may teach subjects in other languages, in particular English, in accordance with the educational program, and foreign languages are taught in their own language.
What this means:
Main language of instruction: Ukrainian is mandatory in all state and municipal educational institutions. Thus, at the Lyceum of Law, the main language of instruction is Ukrainian.
Exceptions and additions:
The Lyceum of Law may introduce the teaching of certain subjects in two or more languages (Ukrainian, English, other official EU languages) in accordance with the educational program.
Foreign languages (e.g., English) are taught in the respective foreign language.
In the External Independent Evaluation (EIE), now known as the National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT), all subjects (except foreign languages) are taken in Ukrainian, which tests knowledge of both the subject and the language.
In general, Ukrainian is the language of communication and instruction in the public education sector, ensuring the unity of the educational space and protecting citizens' rights to education.
